I recently witnessed a touching scene involving two Here dads which started me thinking about the significance of being a working dad.

At Here we operate a voluntary rota to cover our reception and for me this is a great  opportunity to see people I don’t often see, catch people about things I have wanted to talk about for a while and still continue with my work.

It was while I was on voluntary reception duty that I observed this scene…… Picture one of our Here dads, waiting with his little boy in reception for mum and sister to return from the doctors next door.  Another Here dad walks into reception & spies them. What follows is a few minutes of joyous rough and tumble.

Clearly the dads and the child all know each other well & their connection was tangible. It was lovely to see. This set me thinking, there are a lot of dads working for Here, many of them place great significance on their role as a dad and are able to show a real sense of ‘bringing your whole self to work’ through that. Some of them have amended their hours to spend special time with their children; others have their desks plastered with family photos. I thought that it would be great to talk to them and find out more about what it means to be a working dad and how the workplace supports that.

I gathered up a few dads from across the organisation.  We sat in our socks in our ‘Meadow room’ and started nervously. The resulting fun video shows the tremendous warmth of the men and much more besides.  Have a look and enjoy!

This video conversation is part of a short series by Here, exploring and celebrating diversity and wholeness at work.
