Improving Access Services provide extended hours NHS medical appointments at a number of GP surgeries across Brighton and Hove.

We are a not-for profit, social enterprise, membership organisation. Our members are local GPs, practice managers, practice nurses and our own staff.

We’re hiring GPs and Locums currently practising and registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) to provide extended hours appointments.

 

JOB SUMMARY

A wide range of primary care experience is essential for this role as we are looking for people to participate fully in our GP team.

 

You will:

  • Deal with a wide range of health care needs in the primary care setting, ensuring the highest standard of care for all registered and out of area patients.
  • Be responsible for the delivery of general practice nursing care to the whole practice population.
  • Deliver evidence-based practice for patients presenting with an immediate nursing need or a long-term condition and the provision of preventative health care to the practice population. Appointments are pre-booked and cross-checked to ensure they meet your skill set.
  • Demonstrate safe clinical decision-making and provide expert care in the management of patients.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the team to meet the needs of patients and support service objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Work within your scope of practice in accordance with national and local policies and procedures, and within your NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

£100 p/h base rate

Our opening times are:

Monday – Friday 18:30 – 20:30
Saturday and Sunday – Various shift patterns available during these hours: 09:00 – 17:00

Working for the Improved Access Service

Q: What is the Improved Access Service?
A: We are an out-of-hours service that provides routine, pre-bookable appointments to patients in and around Brighton and Hove. We work closely with the Primary Care Networks to support their patients and ensure that we are providing high quality care at convenient times.

Q: What are the hours like?
A: We run evening clinics Monday to Friday, from 18:30-20:30. Saturday and Sunday we run clinics from 9:00 to 17:00. There are a range of different shifts available during the weekend.

Q: How do I assign to shifts?
A: We will send you a link to sign up to Workforce Platform. Once you are registered, and the pre-employment checks have been completed, your account will be enabled and you will be able to add your availability via the schedule screen. You will also be able to view current shifts and assign to them.

Q: What is the training process?
A: You will receive a service induction with an IAS manager, either online via Teams or in person at our Brighton office. We will also send out a resource pack that details our processes, which can be referred to on shift.

Q: Will I receive support on shift?
A: Yes! Our team are available remotely during all shifts, and can be contacted via IM or phone. We can also arrange clinical shadowing for your first few shifts if needed.
