We’re really proud of our colleagues and the amazing work they do for our communities and healthcare. These stories are from the people that work at Here, who work so hard everyday to provide exceptional care, for everyone.
This week we’re spotlighting Alice, our Service Manager for Additional Primary Care (APC). Alice has been working for Here since October 2020.
Why did you choose to work in APC?
I used to work for the Wellbeing Service. When the service was TUPE’d to SPFT, I didn’t want to leave Here. I met with the Service Manager and thought the work sounded really interesting so applied for an admin role and started in October 2020.
Describe what you do in 100 words.
I am the service manager for APC which is an urgent primary care service based at RSCH. The service’s aim is to reduce pressure on the overstretched hospital emergency department by treating suitable primary care patients who have either self-presented at A&E or called NHS111. I work closely with the Director of Primary Care and Clinical Leads to innovate and improve the urgent care pathway to improve performance and high-quality care. I have established relationships with hospital, commissioner and urgent care colleagues across Brighton and Sussex and over the year hope to continue to build these relationships and work more closely alongside each other.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
- Never running out of work to do!
- Supporting a stressful A&E department by reducing the number of patients who end up there.
- My professional relationship with my clinical leads.
What would you say to someone thinking about a career in APC?
APC works in an everchanging environment so you’ll never be bored! This service does definitely make a difference to patient’s lives, and positively influences how they view the NHS.
How would you describe the APC in one word?
Exciting!
