What we do
We help people who are being treated for musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions – the conditions which affect their muscles, joints or bones.
Why we do it
We believe people should be in control of what happens, get choice of where to go, be involved in decisions about their care and treatment and supported to better manage their condition.
Who we do it for
People living in East Sussex being treated for musculoskeletal conditions – we have clinics in Crowborough, Hailsham, Seaford, Eastbourne and Peacehaven.
We help to deliver Sussex MSK Partnership East in partnership with, Horder Healthcare, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
We aim to get people on the right course of treatment as soon as possible, through self-management advice, physiotherapy, medication, surgery or other medical interventions. We want to make care as straightforward as possible, by providing one point of contact as close to people’s homes as possible.
How do I access the service?
Referral to the service comes through GPs. There’s more information on the Sussex MSK Partnership East website on how referral works.
Referrals are assessed (or ‘triaged’) by specially trained clinicians who are up to date on best practice. They look at the information in the referral and decide the best course of action.
Very often the next step will be an appointment at a local community clinic with the most appropriate clinician to deal with your health problem. This will be one of the following:
- Doctor (Consultant, Registrar, GP who has been specially trained in MSK conditions)
- Nurse Specialist
- Podiatrist (if it is a foot problem)
- Extended Scope Practitioner (ESP) – this is a clinician with advanced knowledge and skills and will be from one of the following professional backgrounds: Osteopath, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist or Podiatrist.
